Late Night Nom

So last night in addition to the Nommin' Fried Rice, Meggle$ and I finished off (this is our story of the night in the Not Sorry blog..), we enjoyed some other treats as well. Actually the first night I made my fried rice I figured this bad boy out. A girlfriend had left some like frozen texas toast garlic breads, and according to the directions they needed to be put in the oven. But at 3 or 4 am I want easy and I want delicious and I want it now. You know what I saw then? The George Forman. I plugged that sucker in and when that little light went off I plopped on my toast. In no time at all they were ready to be nommed. Oh man are those suckers delicious. So back to last night, I made some Toasted Toast. YUM! And then we also nommed some Skinny Cow Fudge Bars- those are great and like no calories...but they were accompanied by Oreos. The rest of the oreos. Haha yeah, we had quite the Nom Fest and I don't regret a single second of it (except maybe not saving any rice for breakfast).

Bitchin' Broccoli

I just recently made up this recipe while I was bored and hungry a week or so ago and let me tell you, it has been a big hit with my friends ever since. Have you ever steamed broccoli before?? It is SO easy! I googled it...anyways I had some fresh broccs so I just rinsed and chopped them up. I just got a pot of water, enough to pretty much cover the broccs when i put them in there and got it to a boil. Once it boiled, I dumped in my chopped broccs, turned down the head to a 5 or 6(med high i guess) and tilted the lid to the side so that steam could escape  and set the kitchen timer for like 5 or 6 minutes. I dont remember. Then I sat down and watched some tv until the timer went off. Then I hauled myself up and drained those puppies. I put them in a bowl and covered them in sesame oil (im sure olive oil would work just as well), lemon juice and soy sauce. In one variation i even added some sliced almonds. Not bad, but I havent done it again since, if you catch my drift. Then I mixed them all up, so that the broccs were all pretty much covered in juice, and you know what I had then? Some Bitchin' Broccoli.

In case you forgot what soy sauce looked like.

Nommin' Fried Rice

So I kind of debated of what to make for my first post, but after last night, I decided that this needed to be my first. I made this last night for dinner, and it was so easy and delicious! I personally LOVE fried rice and have to say thank you to my friend Megan for telling me how to make it. To make my cooking even easier last night, I went to a local chinese restaurant and bought a quart of white rice (Okay I actually bought two so that I could make it again in a few days!). When I got home I began by scrambling 4 eggs, and then I set that aside. In a new pan I melted a little bit of butter in a pan with some olive oil, and then I combined the better part of an onion I had chopped up, along with some minced garlic.

This stuff is GREAT. So I added a bit of garlic, maybe 2 teaspoons worth, and sauteed all that up for a bit. After the onions were just a little cooked I added some broccoli I had chopped up along with part of a bag of frozen peas and carrots- just to make my life a little bit easier. But I couldnt help thinking how much easier my life had been if I had bought a bag of all of these veggies already frozen..but such is life. So I mixed all those up for a bit letting them cook, and I actually added more garlic at this point and to be honest I think I could have added more. Don't shy away! I think it would be easier however to add all of your garlic to the veggies alone, not the veggies and rice (I'll try it out and keep you posted). Anyhow, my veggies began to look something like this:

Looks pretty nommin, right? Well once I was satisfied that my veggies were decently cooked (and not frozen still) I just dumped my quart of rice right on top. And then I kind of messily mixed it all together. So I mixed all of it up until the rice starting cooking, sticking to the bottom of my pan a little (I dont know if its  my pan or typical of white rice?) Then, this is when I added the soy sauce. This is what I would not recommend going too crazy with. I did and thats what made me realize it would have been better to do more garlic than soy sauce, but such is life, and it was still delish. This is kind what it looked like::

Maybe not this thing is being slow...

There we go. I just let that cook up a little more, until it started to really look like fried rice, you'll know. When I thought it was done i just dumped my scrambled eggs on top and mixed that all up!! And then you know what I had???? Nommin' Fried Rice!!

It was soo good. I was excited, all of that ^^^ were my leftovers, and they fit perfectly into the quart of white rice that I had bought before. And I can't even tell you how unbelievably delicious it was when I stumbled home at 4am this morning. Easy and delicious!!! Right??

In case you don't want to read my ramblings, here is the kind of recipe:
However much rice you want- I prebought to make my life easier
Then-
Eggs- scrambled, set to the side
Then-
Chopped Onion
Minced Garlic
Chopped Veggies of choice really (I chose fresh broccoli and frozen peas and carrots)
Mix until pretty cooked and not frozen
Then-
Dump rice in on top and mix until it starts cooking a little bit.
Then-
Add soysauce and mix, and then your eggs and mix. I guess you could add all of this at once, thats kind of the great thing about fried rice.
Then-
NOM!!

Where's The Food Already??

So before I get to all of the delicious nom, I wanted to kind of explain exactly what a foodie is. I thought of it as just a person who enormously enjoys delicious foods, but thanks to Wikipedia, I have learned that it is so much more. Apparently, a foodie is someone who enjoys not only delicious food, but delicious drink!!
"Although the two terms are sometimes used interchangeably, foodies differ from gourmets in that gourmets are epicures of refined taste who may or may not be professionals in the food industry, whereas foodies are amateurs who simply love food for consumption, study, preparation, and news.[1] Gourmets simply want to eat the best food, whereas foodies want to learn everything about food, both the best and the ordinary, and about the science, industry, and personalities surrounding food"
So I have to say thats not entirely true about myself. Yes, I am an amateur. But I don't really want to learn everything there is to know about being a foodie. A wino could be cool though. That's just someone who drinks and knows good wine, right? I'll check out the wiki for us..
"A slang term for a homeless person who consumes large amounts of alcohol, usually in the form of low-end fortified wine: see Alcoholism"
OKAY WOW. That's not me. While I may drink copious amounts of low end alcohol (Natty Lite what upp), I am NOT homeless. In fact on a weird side note, I live in two places technically. On and off campus. This is kind of what I meant about how I would be posting about whatever came to mind...

Which reminds me.. Check out my girl (and crew's) blog I'm Not Sorry I Like To Party. I have a feeling my blog will be a great companion to hers.. when its time to come home and nom. Actually I should probably explain nom as well...
..we saw that one day and it has become a great verb in my friends and I's vocabulary. Let's nom, Where's the nom, using nom as an adjective. It's great, feel free to adopt.

So essentially now that I am allowed to incorporate my drinking under the foodie umbrella I will be sure to post nommin' drinks as well. Get ready for some easy and delicious nom.

No More Ramen!

Hello.  I am in college. And I am a foodie. These words seemingly contradict each other but I am what I am. My aims are to create a collection of recipes geared towards those who are like myself, or those (in college or otherwise) who just don't have a clue. I have one prerequisite about food: it must be delicious. And if I am going to be cooking my own food, I want it to be easy. So easy even my brothers could do it (which says a lot considering they only know how to make messes with eggs, hotdogs, peanut butter and jellies, and cereal). I guess that's the college in me. Easy AND delicious. Who doesn't want that? I will also be sharing thoughts, ideas, basically anything that could pop into my head, hopefully relating to being a foodie, whether you want to read it or not. I want this to be an enjoyable experience for anyone who comes across my blog, hopefully parting with a smile on their face or at least a little bit more hungry. My name is Megan. I am a college foodie. And I am here to help college students across the globe from eating anymore Ramen (unless I can find a way to make it delicious).
